Velta's Farm

In 2005, I felt a need to speak up about my feelings toward George W. Bush.  Before I knew it, I joined a group of like-minded folks who were all going to D.C. to participate in "Turn Your Back on Bush" day during his 2nd inauguration.  This is where I met Velta Mack.  I, the youngest, and she, the oldest, of our rag tag crew got along well and upon finding out we were both from western Oregon, we continued our friendship back home.  Velta, who is in her late 70s, runs a farm by herself with many an animal as you can see above and below.  Visiting her place and seeing her toughness in action was a pretty awesome experience.

This is as close as I got to holding or even touching a fuzzy lamb; they were just too quick and cautious around me.  They were willing to be handled by Velta, though :-)
This is one of Velta's neighbor's farms.  I can totally imagine myself doing this one day.
